Company Brooklyn Movement Center (BMC) is a Black-led, membership-based organization of primarily low-to-moderate income Central Brooklyn residents, ~10 employees.

Context BMC sought to strengthen its membership base and inspire community engagement by moving away from narratives focused solely on trauma. The goal was to mobilize the community through a campaign that celebrated Black Brooklyn’s culture, political history, and imagination, encouraging members to see themselves as part of a vibrant, uplifting vision for the future.

Challenge Launch an 8-week multi-platform campaign that would not only increase membership but also inspire and activate the community’s imagination around Black Brooklyn’s cultural and political heritage. Each week required a fresh theme and cohesive content across various channels, including emails, website updates, Instagram posts, and print materials, ensuring alignment with BMC’s overarching vision and brand values.

Contribution I conceptualized, developed, and executed a comprehensive 8-week digital campaign that celebrated the culture, political history, and radical imagination of Black Brooklyn. Each week featured a distinct cultural or political theme, which I represented through newly crafted visual assets, a weekly newsletter sent to over 6,000 subscribers, and Instagram posts.

I created original content for social media, email, and the website, and when additional materials were needed, I collaborated with BMC employees to source relevant content. My weekly themes and narratives aligned with the organization’s broader goals, reinforcing BMC’s mission and inspiring community connection. Alongside weekly execution, I monitored content performance to gauge impact, making adjustments to enhance engagement.

Impact The campaign successfully engaged the community, celebrating Black Brooklyn’s legacy and activating members through compelling, relevant content. Increased membership sign-ups and positive community feedback highlighted the campaign’s success. Each theme and asset supported BMC’s vision, fostering community pride, and strengthening the organization’s presence both digitally and locally. The ongoing monitoring and responsive adjustments ensured that content remained impactful, helping BMC reach its campaign goals.
