Versal was an Amsterdam-based literary journal dedicated to experimental writing and art. After years of publishing the journal and running bi-monthly evenings of experimental literature and art, we wanted to do something more permanent. Versal Editions was our answer — a small batch community press.
For our inaugural publication we put out an open call for poetry manuscripts. Dozens arrived. We read them all. The editorial team deliberated through a longlist, then a shortlist, then a decision. The winner was For Work/For TV — a collection that felt like exactly the kind of book we wanted to exist in the world.
I was part of the full editorial process and led the creative direction of the book's production and promotional material — working with a graphic designer on the design, a local printer on the physical object, and producing the campaign around its launch. We closed with a reading with the author.
